Aberaeron sits on the Cardigan Bay coast in mid-Wales, a Georgian harbor town known for its pastel-colored houses lining the seafront. The A487 coastal road runs directly through the town center, connecting it north to Machynlleth and south to Cardigan. This scenic route follows the Welsh coastline and offers one of the most picturesque drives in Wales, particularly during summer months when the mild maritime climate brings clear skies and gentle sea breezes. Most visitors arrive via the A487 from either direction, though the town also connects inland via the B4342 to Tregaron and the Cambrian Mountains. Long-distance travelers often approach from the A44 at Llangurig, following mountain roads through some of Wales' most remote countryside before descending to the coast. The journey from Cardiff takes about two hours via the A470 and A44, while drivers from England typically use the A40 through Brecon before joining coastal routes. Local traffic uses shorter connections to nearby villages like Aber-Arth and Llanarth, with many residents commuting along the coastal A487 for work or shopping.
